“the kind of puerile humour that blights Ganymede and Titan...” - Rick Mason, Groovetown

John Hoare / 28.03.07 / 2:00 am

It's called "ignoring feedback", folks

Trev and Simon, doing Art For 'Em. YES, IT'S THAT OLD JOKE.

Remember you all said no to a forum? Indeed, remember me saying that G&T “simply couldn’t sustain a forum”?

Erm, sorry.

A few words of explanation, however. Firstly, we’re not trying to rival the Webboard or BTLi. Or even Groovetown or alt.tv.red-dwarf, come to that. You’ll notice that unlike certain ten-a-penny Dwarf forums I could mention, there aren’t shitloads-upon-shitloads of separate sections. We’re not out to create something massive.

But: got some feedback on the site? Post a forum topic. Got something to say that’s Dwarf-related, but which is off-topic for any of our current posts? Stick it in the forums. It’s that kind of thing. Nothing huge, nothing that will take over or define the site - but just a little additional thing that’s there if you want to make use of it, and to help stop off-topic stuff in news or article threads. (Only registered users can post new topics, I’m afraid - but everyone can add their thoughts to an existing topic.) You know the drill: we’re pretty damn lenient here, but don’t take the piss. Keep topics generally related to stuff we cover on the site - the odd completely off-topic post we won’t object to, but we don’t want loads of them.

If you have any problems or suggestions, then let us know here. Have fun, now.

For yay!

…Wait, so that’s why I have a “create content” thingy up near my name? If so, that answers a lot of my questions.

Also, even if you have software in place, you’ll always want some people around who have the power to take care of spam posts when they manage to get through your defenses. That’s the only Timeless Internet Wisdom I have to impart for now…

Yep. And “Episode Review” should appear there soon, too…

I’ll bear it in mind if it becomes a problem, ta!

Oddly, BTLi and the Webboard are the quietest I’ve known them for a long time.
The Webboard has had quiet times over the years but this lull seems to be longer than usual…

That explains why 34 of the past 38 edits on DwarfWiki are spam, yes? :p

Gah. To be honest, I keep forgetting about DwarfWiki, as it’s completely seperate to the rest of the system. I will try and sort that out. It needs a plan, and some time spending on it.

And I noticed the Webboard was quiet, too. Odd.

> And I noticed the Webboard was quiet, too. Odd.

I thought about starting a thread called ‘Talk about the new DVDs you bastards’, then didn’t.

Weird. I though The End: TOA and Bodysnatcher would cause more discussion than it has. Maybe this Friday’s update will cause some chatter…

Meh. Anything less than ‘Chloe Annett Offers Free Blowjobs’ would fail to excite me right now.

What about ‘Craig Charles offers free blowjobs’?

Steve Harris / Wed, 2007-03-28 16:29 / #

I’ve often wondered how to create more chatter on the webboard…
Friday updates on ‘Pepsi’, ‘The correct use of English’ or a report on MSM messaging services perhaps!
Having said that, I came to the conclussion some time ago that only a handful of webboard users actually read the updates but others seem to go there if and when prompted.
I used to make a point of starting a thread on the subject of updates each Friday, but by Saturday these would evolve into chat about Pepsi, English or MSM etc…
I actually get grumpy if I miss the updates at 11.30ish…

Is it…..”For the past two years ‘Red Dwarf: The Movie’ has been in production secretly and will be released in a week”?

Incidentally, I’ll be sticking the latest forum topics in a seperate box over the next couple of days, rather than jumbling it all up with the newa/article comments list.

It’s fairly quiet everywhere RD-related this past week, I’ve noticed. Is it exams time for college students, or something? It was what’s called “Spring Break” for elementary students where I live, here in Canada.

It’s all moved over here, maybe? :) Seriously though, I think those news items may have been a victim of the quiet trend over there.

I think the thing with The End: TOA and Bodysnatcher is that they can’t be discussed much until we’ve actually seen them, even though Rob being involved with the latter is probably the only real Dwarf news since Beat The Geek was announced. Of course, that was before his DJ appearance was revealed which is immense (I mean, Rob Grant and ‘immense’ surely go together…).

Steve Harris / Sat, 2007-03-31 09:44 / #

There seemed to be a marked improvement on webboard discussion regarding the ‘updates’ this time round, despite the relative quietness.
