“You could remove the highly insulting reference to the Japanese, it is a bit of a "no no" in 2004 for any racist comments to be on a public website.” - Edward Cowling, ATVRD

Roswell 1847 trailer

Remember this? Well, now they’ve released a trailer.

This is definitely Red Dwarf: The Movie. Yes. Definitely.

But it must be the Red Dwarf film. Someone said it on the Internet. And people on the Internet are never wrong. It’s a scientific fact!

What’s odd is that a poster in John’s original thread were banging on about it being the Red Dwarf film, and then some guy doing exactly the same thing started a thread on the TOS board.

Is someone in the production playing silly buggers?

>Is someone in the production playing silly buggers?

I wish someone in the production team knew how to make a good comedy.

Why am I laughing so hard when it’s obviously the biggest pile of steaming shit ever?

It does look awful doesn’t it?

Started several threads, didn’t he? Or was that someone else?

No, you’re right actually. Even more suspicious.

With the Red Dwarf guys involved in something where the acting and production seem so intentionally bad - including what little of their own contribution we see - I would be truly shocked if that (or something similar) wasn’t the case! Were they not involved, I’d just think some rank amateur tried to make a movie and did a very bad job of it, but in this case, it does seem darn suspicious…

I think we can all breathe a massive sigh of relief, safe in the knowledge that it’s NOT the Red Dwarf Movie.

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 10:15 / #

I would love to see somthing creative that any of you have ever done in your life.
I dought it exists, but if it does..go on tell us where to see it, if you dare.

Pete Part Three's picture

Pete Part Three / Wed, 2007-08-08 10:23 / #

I did a shit last night. That was fairly creative. I’m afraid I flushed it away, but I assure you that it was more enjoyable than that trailer.

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 10:32 / #

I really really really would love to know what expertise you have as a critic or is it just gut feelings. Come on…tell me WHAT YOU HAVE DONE to make this world a better place.

Pete Part Three's picture

Pete Part Three / Wed, 2007-08-08 11:03 / #

I have given pleasure to the world because I have such a beautiful ass.

You’re right though. No one should be able to criticise anything unless they’ve done something on a similar par. I can’t, for example, call George W. Bush a bad president, because I’ve never held office.

Ah well.

I HAVE held offal. However, it’s not quite the same, is it?

Pete Part Three's picture

Pete Part Three / Wed, 2007-08-08 11:27 / #

;-)

I’m assuming arayofcommonsense is in some way related the production (or one of its production crew).

Phil's picture

Phil / Wed, 2007-08-08 11:34 / #

>tell me WHAT YOU HAVE DONE to make this world a better place.

Okay. I’ve written several novels, had a collection of short stories published, opened for local musicians at various venues (including the famed Stone Pony), written a forward for a collection of poetry, edited and directed a series of monologue-based podcasts, had several essays published in literary journals (all part of earning my degree, y’see…), wrote and animated a series of short films (which would have been under consideration by Adult Swim had I managed to get my ass in gear at the time and produce a proper pilot), anchored a local news show and had a DJ spot on 99.7 WBHX Radio as Big Phil in the Morning.

Not that you expected anyone to answer the question. But, hell, you gave me some room to brag.

Phil's picture

Phil / Wed, 2007-08-08 11:38 / #

Oh! You can also see the back of my head and left arm on a Phish concert DVD.

There’s a few others I forgot, but that’s something I like to mention…

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 12:20 / #

WOW Phil I am impressed and you are someone I fully respect. YOU HAVE BEEN THERE AND GOT THE T-SHIRT.. I wonder how many of your endeavors got slagged off and then through your own determination you went on to prove others wrong.
You I would listen to and converse with.

I havnt heard from Pete yet on what he has done except try to outdo everyone else on negative feed.

Actually I don’t have anything to do with Roswell 1847 itself, except on the music side. I am not an actor. I have only seen the trailer and I think its OK.
you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time.

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 12:21 / #

as for George Bush as an example… sad

>I wonder how many of your endeavors got slagged off and then through your own determination you went on to prove others wrong.

Whether that number is 100% or 0%, how exactly would that affect Roswell 1847? Surely if it should stand up on any merit it should stand on its own, and not gauged against any personal success or failure on the part of the audience.

That said, you said you’d love to see what we’ve accomplished personally. So you are hereby invited to a Roswell 1847 premier party at my house. Chips, salsa, and sundry examples of creative short fiction will be provided. Email me for driving directions.

I wonder if you’re taking similar potshots at the people on YouTube who seem to like it. If I’m not justified in offering negative feedback (unlike, say, Phil), how are they justified in offering a positive critique? Oh, yeah, because everyone has a right to an opinion. If you don’t like them, tell your pals to not post a video on the world’s most popular media website.

>I havnt heard from Pete yet on what he has done except try to outdo everyone else on negative feed.

Yeah, I haven’t listed anything because my vocation in life doesn’t really offer much room for creativity (if it helps, I’m good at it and pays well).

So, I guess I’m unqualified to watch your film and offer an opinion. Damn. Now I can’t watch it. Maybe I’ll go and direct a movie, dump a crap trailer on Youtube and then I can bitch.

But, you know what, arayofcommonsense…I’m sorry. I’m sorry I think the trailer looks like a pile of wank.

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 13:39 / #

Pete, I love it. If I had to hasard a guess, I would say you are probally an accountant..oh no, can’t be because they can be creative.hehe.
Seriously… I think I will wait to see the WHOLE film and then as you say, make up my own opinion as to its greatness or lack of it. I wont judge a book by its cover and the film can’t be judged by the trailer.

Its so cool that we all think different, otherwise we would all be chasing the same girl or guy and trying to get into the same movie house at once.

Phil, I think I will take you up on your offer… your house you say…
its not the white house is it…George

> If I had to hasard a guess, I would say you are probally an accountant..oh no, can’t be because they can be creative.hehe.

Nope. What a fun game.

>I wont judge a book by its cover and the film can’t be judged by the trailer.

Correct. Which is why I haven’t been judging the film. I’ve only criticised the trailer.

arayofcommonsense / Wed, 2007-08-08 14:26 / #

pete. I hold my Hands up..you are right..maybe I am misjudging you..
Your not a celeb chef are you….that would be worse.

actually I must admit, I wouldn’t know a good trailer from a bad trailer, except that I went to see a film the other week after seeing the trailer, and apart from about 1 minute, the film had no resemblance to the trailer..bored out of my wits.

You look nice enough from you pic. Is it up-to-date hehe

Did you have any jingles for your radio spot, Phil? I’d love to hear Jam Productions sing ‘Big Phil in the Morning’.

>Did you have any jingles for your radio spot, Phil? I’d love to hear Jam Productions sing ‘Big Phil in the Morning’.

Jingles, no. But I did record a promo which was just me talking over the intro to The Sun King, telling people to tune in…that was in rotation.

As is happening to a huge amount of radio stations here in the US, it was bought up by a conglomerate and we were all replaced by robots who select tracks at random from some master playlist somewhere. As a gift a friend of mine recorded my final broadcast and I know I have it somewhere…but I never actually did listen to it. If I dig it out I’ll see if I can’t get my promo into mp3 format.

Norm interviewed about this film, some footage of him in it.

Him mentioning that he was there for only 5 hours, on the 5 day production.
More footage of the movie and some talking with it’s creators. Showing evidence
of the creative level that a) this thing is at and b)has achieved in film making terms.

Fun to watch to see the caption “Norman Lovett. Alien”
