Bizarre Red Dwarf Rant #385643

Here.

Oh, OK, here.

When you start a massive Red Dwarf rant with “You got 6 series done without me seeing more than 5 minutes of a single episode”, you know you’re entering the realms of the very strange indeed…

Yeah Doug, it’s all about YOU, you seem to have forgotten that Red Dwarf is clearly about G DAEB… shame on you.

>Art, music, literature, choreography: how many of them are one-trick ponies?

I’m confident I could name a dozen examples of one-trick-ponyism in each of these categories, if pressed. Except for choreography…because I don’t give a shit.

Hell, I could probably name two dozen apiece in literature a music, or more. But considering I’m not even sure what point he’s trying to make, I doubt it’d be constructive.

This is a question you can ask about just about anything in that rant, but I’ll ask it here first: WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE POINT YOU ARE MAKING?

>but the time and place to run a stage production was in the Millenium Dome, nigh-on a decade ago,

That’ll be the Millenium [sic] Dome that opened on NYE 1997, then.

I found that most ammusing, particularly:

>and, no, I’m not interested in collaborating.

>Yeah, you’ll get a lot of yessers here applauding it, but the time and
place to run a stage production was in the Millenium Dome, nigh-on a
decade ago, to my mind—particularly in the general context of the
millenial eschatoniism that accompanied it and the observations
originally made on the symbolic nature of creation lores versus
linguistic anthropology.

My, that’s a lot of big words. Do you think the person concerned understands them all?

Didn’t Red Dwarf go for eight series? Or did I dream the last two and subsequent debate (if so, that’s worrying…)?

But a great relief.

and, no, I’m not interested in collaborating.

Confident, ain’t he?

I think it needs to wait until a few more of the questions concerning the nature of the cosmos - and indeed whether we’re just out on some never-ending expansion, or accelerating toward a black hole, or about to get sucked back in to some big crunch, have been answered. I suggest leaving it another decade or two, keeping up with the science, and maybe go with it then, when with distance and a fresh eye and whatever other projects you’ve turned the talents the people here rate for to in your corpus, with, in other words, a less-blinkered, focused, folio, you will produce a better film and be remembered far longer which, as you yourselves tried to point out, is pretty much the whole point.

Okay, if I’ve deciphered this fella’s bizarre not-English correctly, I think he means that Doug should wait until science has advanced further to go on with Red Dwarf. My question: Why? How the hell would that make Red Dwarf better? I don’t enjoy a given episode less because our understanding of the cosmos leaves it outdated—hell, don’t some of the better eps of the early series hinge on concepts of space and time that we know don’t actually work?

I didnt’ understand a bloody word he said, but G DAEB makes a nice tune when you play it on a keyboard. :)
