Ah, lovely. Two new lovely pictures. There’s not that much to say about them, but aren’t they lovely? Let’s see what we can squeeze out of them, shall we?
Picture One. Chris Barrie pulls an amusing Chris Barrie-esque face, while Robert Llewellyn’s hand gets touched up by two women and a man. We’re pretty sure the man is costume god Howard Burden, whilst one of the two women must surely be head make-up designer Andrea Finch. Only, you know, they’ve got their backs to camera. It’s another one of those pictures where you look at it and think “was that taken in 2009 or 1998?”
Picture Two. Chris Barrie pulls an amusing Chris Barrie-esque face, while Doug Naylor points at him, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn. And just how fucking lovely is it to see Doug back in action? For the last ten years, all we’ve seen and heard from him is talking about past series on DVDs, and hearing of his movie-based frustrations. To see him on set, with the Dwarf cast, doing some directing, is awfully heart-warming. Also, THEY’RE IN THE FUCKING ROVERS RETURN!
Elsewhere on the Dave site, there’s also a new article about various Dwarf guest stars. It focusses on the biggest names rather than the most significant roles, which is fair enough, and it’s a pleasantly well researched and accurate piece. Although, it wouldn’t be G&T if we didn’t point out two inaccuracies: they accidentally list Me² as being in Series II, and they say that Ken Morley played a “fascist cop” rather than “a Nazi SS captain”, perhaps confusing him with your man from Back To Reality.
There’s also a new Rimmer-based quiz. Expect ones on Kryten and Cat in the coming weeks. It’s a good quiz, although one question slightly falls down due to the fact that the correct answer depends on whether you watch The Last Day or The Inquisitor. Or indeed an episode of Brittas…
Despite these petty and twatty quibbles, it’s hugely reassuring to know that Red Dwarf’s new home seem to “get” the show, and treat it with the respect that it deserves.

and the lack of lister in these pics may suggest that the press were not as many lightyears out as expected ..in the sense that they may be looking for lister..just the whole corrie idea still seems a bit, unlikely

I haven’t heard the abducted part- though I did hear the annoying Rimmer part.

Yeah, I was referring to the “Lister abducted” bit. I think that’s conjecture based on the “Lister is found in Coronation Street” idea that is doing the rounds.
Incidentally, that sounds too reminiscent of “Krtyen is found in a Western town” for me.
So maybe they all get thrown back to earth but different bits? A bit like BTL in the novels where they have to find each other? Except in this case the only photographic evidence of Lister they can turn up is this guy who hosts Robot Wars, Cyberzone and stars in Corrie?

I remember an episode of Sliders that did that- Lipshitz Live, apparently the huge TV watching audience threw off the magnetic anchor, dropping each person off at different places. Pity it destroyed a great idea for the mytharc of the series :(
Of course you could fall back on the reality bubble theory. The end of OOT, VII and VIII all being one giant false reality and they were infact protecting being Earth, or at least one version of Earth. That would give us the four of the them, Rimmer as a hard-light hologram AND you could put ageing process down to Deep-Sleep or something. Of course it’ll be nothing like that whatsoever.
i dont like the idea of them finding him in corrie or as a prsenter of robot wars ect ect, i think if they landed on the set of corrie as they were filming an episode of corrie would be interesting. but from what robert said on his latest u tube vid .. we could sit guessing all week and not work it out

Not that I’m aware of.
The thing is, at the beginning of season 3, Quinn just *heppens* to be in the same prison cell as his mother (despite it being Los Angeles instead of San Francisco), wo happened to have that chip on her, to tell him about his brother. The potential story was to have his mother be a Kromagg using mind control, and the brother is a mole created using altered DNA taken from Quinn in ‘Invasion’. GREAT IDEA- destroyed since ‘Lipschitz Live’ has Quinn’s bother’s double.
I hate the idea of Red Dwarf being in the same reality as Coronation Street. My guess is that they end up in a dimension based on fiction.
This is a bit too similar to the Bill and Ted cartoon series though.

I think the distinction between Red Dwarf being in the same reality as Coronation Street….and Coronation Street actually being a TV show within the Red Dwarf universe (as in ours) could be the crux of whether it’s a good or bad idea.

That’s really quite cool. Had no idea that St Elsewhere had such a bizarre twist. The Red Dwarf claim makes me question the whole of that grid but I notice that Doctor Who is in there too (and since the TARDIS popped up in a deleted scene can it make it on that count?)

For some reason it’s just hit me that a return to PRESENT DAY Earth would piss me off somewhat, but it’s likely to be the case here. I suppose it can’t be helped. It was never gonna be like the proposed Movie scenario or anything. Budget.

Yes, I can see that from the sentence structure. There’s a key on the webpage that apparently explains it all if you’re that bothered. I think Red Dwarf and Star Trek touching (!) is a mistake though.

Buffy apparently has a crossover with The X Files, which retcons her line “I can’t believe you of all people are trying to Scully me” from the pilot, to something along the lines of “Hello strange British man I have just met, are you doubting the veracity of my assertions, much like our apparently mutual acquaintance FBI Agent Dana Scully is prone to do, whom I assume you know because an associate of hers smokes Morley Cigarettes as will a vampire with whom I will one fuck a house down. It couldn’t simply be a case of wanting to avoid a lawsuit from big tobacco, for God sakes why isn’t everything with a 555 area code on here. And they’ve missed out Quatermass.”

I just got 19/12 (I was only expecting 11, so, you know, better than expected - the Samaritan one being the puzzler), though the ‘correct’ answers were from the Lister quiz.
I scored 19/12 on the quiz, apparently. Figure that shit out.

It was in Star Trek: First Contact as well.
Considering the blurb on the main site and Rob Llewellyn’s twitter, I’m not worrying about the crossover thing.
I suspect they land on Earth, possibly present day Earth, or something that LOOKS like present day Earth and they end up on a street. They use the Corrie set as that street possibly as a little homage to Craig Charles’s role there, and possibly one of two of the actors as well, but playing different (if similar) characters. In other words those who watch Corrie might get an extra kick out of it, but those who have never seen it will just perceive it as a period setting.
(Of course there was the stuff about Craig Charles stating he plays other characters, but that could be the unplugged show. If it is, then maybe he will be playing another character reminiscent of the Corrie version, as in the total immersion idea, but it’s not literally him. It’s not literally a cross-over.

I’m really hoping you’re kidding! The turnaround on a Buffy script ended up being insanely tight, and ‘some episodes of this decades-long series are forever lost’ isn’t something you find quickly unless you already know you’re looking for it. Why would you look if you didn’t know? ‘I assume you can see all the episodes of this famous show’ isn’t a wholly unreasonable conclusion to jump to. Particularly if you’re looking for a drop-in joke the night before filming.
Also: the troika would have no trouble seeing episodes shown overseas, so it’s not about being American, just that some eps are now lost. But they’re magical kids, they coulda found ‘em. I’m happy to assume a wizard did it.
When Robert isn’t smiling, it makes the Kryten mask look *really* series VI. This is good.
That picture with Doug looks so staged. As if the photographer said “Now… pretend you’re directing”

19/22. The stupid thing counted me wrong for one answer that was right, then for two I didn’t even choose, and STILL gave the wrong answer!
The more I see that second photo, the more I think of Timeslides. it’s almost a recreation of that scene, going in to a photo to meet Lister. I like their check list of Guest Stars this week, and this piece regarding Tony Hawks “Tony’s been a Red Dwarf mainstay since the beginning, and we wouldn’t bet against him making an appearance again sometime.” I wonder if this could be a hint, that he might be appearing in the specials?

Had a EXTREMLEY vivid dream abou the first spercial last night.
Go abit mesed up because one minute I was at the studio record, and then I was watching a working progress cut with bits missing. The model shots were new, with something VERY similar to the original red dwarf model, but It had like an extra level on top like a lnding deck. AND It was explodng. Rimer and Lister banter ws funny, and any scenes that were mising had been temporarily finished with cheap animation. I was laughing when I woke up. Visually incredible. Never had a dream like that.
Love the pics btw. Doug does indeed look staged but how cool to see him ‘on set’.
