By the way, the cover is literally part of the plot - it’s a special collector’s edition to celebrate the return of the Red Dwarf to Earth. It might even be on display in the episode, inside the comic book store. This makes the whole metafiction thing even more confusing - it’s 2009 and everyone is aware that the guys are coming back to Earth and a magazine is celebrating it?? I’M CONFUSED!!!!

What do I subscribe for? I should have this as a matter of course.

I assume some of the limited editions will be in he subscriber lot, 5 possibly, it would be really mean to leave all the loyal readers out.

im hoping the story is that they find out a tv show has been made about them in an ALTERNATIVE DIMENSION because if i turns out there just actors in a tv show and they find that out a.that would be the end of the show b. would be absolutely shit

The more I read stuff like this, the more I think this is EXACTLY what the show is gonna be…

Maybe Rimmer’s past dimension hopping could have resulted in this.

So what is happening in this alternative dimension the gang arrive in, why would a poster for ‘Back to Earth’ be there, why would Carbug exist.

I’d imagine carbug was created on the ship to ‘blend in’.

If it’s an illusion/simulation, maybe the magazine covers are a clue to them. Like the clues leading to the escape buttons in Back in the Red.

In an alternative dimension, a rogue simulant has gained mastery over a dimension hopping leviathan and uses it to search for wealth. Failing to find any, his creature chances upon the Red Dwarf crew. Monitoring all this from a secret laboratory, the simulant uses the beastie to bring the Dwarfers into his own universe and takes them all back in time, where he uses the knowledge of their lives (which the leviathan is able to extract, cos it’s psychic dontcha know) to make a fortune by turning their lives into a television show.

Well maybe the Dwarfers arrive on Earth, OUR Earth, in ‘real time’… as in, they arrive on Earth on Saturday April 11th, as the hype machine is in overdrive for the debut of Red Dwarf: Back to Earth on Dave. In this dimension alternate from their own (which is in fact the dimension in which WE the viewer inhabit), Red Dwarf is indeed a beloved cult TV show. The actors have decided to put the show to bed with one final special episode on Dave (therefore, effectively ‘killing off’ the characters).

Once on Earth the Dwarfers realise that, as they are currently unable to get back to their own dimension, the laws and physics of THIS dimension apply and should the “final” episode air, they will in fact die. So they hunt down Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn in an effort to convince them not to end the show for good.

My guess is that we have the ‘real’ RD dimension. Then there’s an alternate dimension in which Red Dwarf TV comes to an end. And then there’s another dimension, where the TV shows continue. And the question for the viewer and TV suits is: in which dimension are we?

To be fair, I wasn’t suggesting my ‘plot outline’ as either a serious suggestion or as a hope for what happens. Just got hyperactive through a combination of too much coffee and too many sparkly lovely new pictures :D

These episode will not be shite. These episodes have one thing about them that means they cannot be shite, they are Red Dwarf.

As I’m still housebound (I’ve been in hospital, you know), I’ve sent my sister all over the place looking for one of these SFXs. She can’t find one, funnily enough.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m convinced.

Well they do have a 52 episode streak of fantastic episodes (I know loads don’t agree but I think it)

no corse they wont be shite just really dont like the idea of this ooo were a tv show idea .. unless of corse its all settled by the end of it which im sure it will be soo nothing to worry about .. there all just messing with our heads at this stage

perhaps it will turn out that red dwarf was all a figment of normans imagination to give him somthing to put on his cv

You’ve not seen series VII, then?

I have many times, fantastic! It is the worst series but that is relative to the rest of Dwarf and not other shows, I’d rather have Series VII of Dwarf than say Season 22 of Doctor Who.

And 7 compares well with 8 even (with the exception of Cassandra and Krytie TV maybe.)

Would it be possible to have a PDF version of the magazine on the DVD?
