i always thought that the ? was simply a case of the RT not knowing the proper name of the character. Didn’t even consider that it was spoiler prevention.

> I would say that was a massive spoiler! Letting on the crew were dead

I think that’s more akin to giving away that Harry Potter is a wizard or that…Jen ends up in the IT basement. It’s the initial setup of the whole show so not really too big a deal to reveal it.

I AM mightily impressed with that RT listing. It’s no wonder plenty of people tuned in for The End.

“a load of promotional videos we had to make, hundreds of still photos of the cast in various locations”

Look forward to all of this.

It does suffer from including “unexpected twist ending #1 2000-2010” but I thought his performance was great, the story is decent and the fantasy sequences with Carrey as Fingerling were very good too. Hmm, it has a bad rap, and it shouldn’t!

I love it! Makes me want to

I love it! Makes me want to hear your other songs actually. And it’s always nice to be able to connect a voice with typed words and an avatar.

Also enjoyed that both of us stayed true to what’s given (Rob and Doug’s lyrics and Lister’s hummed melody) yet came up with a completely different result. With the chords you used, I hear the song in a new way now. (Mine is very bluesy.)

Ah well thanks. I had planned to do the same, but i’m trying to avoid being bluesy in anything at the moment, as I generally play with the band in blues venues outside London which want eveyone to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan and play the same old Hendrix covers. When it reached the point that a popular band was doing a 20 minute version of Voodoo Chile I decided to use prog and funk instead, largely just to annoy them. Well if you really want to hear the original material (and frankly God help you do,) theres some up on the Venture South SoundCloud page. It’s mainly unfinished mixes from a cd that never got released on there though. I see no point in updating it until we record a cd of the material we have actually been playing for the past 2 years though.

To be honest, far more interestingly on SoundCloud is my friend George from the band Storm Engine. I’d imagine there’s a fair few people familiar with them without realising it, as half of the band are also in Matt Berry’s band and performed with him at the end of one episode of Screenwipe. George is one of the most talented musicians I know.

I would say that was a massive spoiler! Letting on the crew were dead, ok spoilt for a week but seeing as the magazine was the only medium, brave.

I have all the Radio Times clippings cut out and glued to card, nights were long, there wasn’t even any cheese snap!

I’ll dig out my 1988 magazines, it was reviewed in quite a few, but more stand alone magazines like SFX type, than another show mags. I also have press cuttings, not sure how far they go back though.

True. I never got the impression that the future version of Rimmer in Out Of Time was that bothered about his aged appearance. In fact, he looked quite comfortable being the shape and look he was…

That’s true - of the book

That’s true - of the book continuity, at least. I never felt the TV Rimmer demonstrated the same obsession. Plus his heroes are the elder statesmen, the generals, the leaders, the officers. I can imagine him loving the thought of growing into that image.

But perceptions change as you age. Maybe competing with Lister or putting up a front as an aid to promotion was important to young Rimmer. But being better than Lister is a big motivation. How would he feel if Lister started playing the age card in reverse. “Respect your elders, Rimmer!”

If Rimmer still looked 25 and Lister looked 45, I think Rimmer would feel intimidated and want to match Lister’s aesthetic age. What could be more satisfying for Rimmer than to crow “look how much better than you I look at the same age” - boosted as he is by the ability to control his own appearance.

Anyway, it makes for fair in-world explanation for Chris Barrie’s ageing anyway.

As for Carlito’s

As for Carlito’s suggestion of Rimmer wanting to look older…I disagree. One thing he was obsessed about in the novels was keeping young by stealing every spare moment he had in the Stasis Booths. One of the reasons he objected to Lister’s punishment was because Lister would have gained “time” on him. I’m sure he would see the not ageing as one of the few benefits of being a hologram.
