Great article. I’ve thought much the same concerning old Rimsy. He has always been particularly articulate for one thing.

I’ve often found the Emohawk episode quite interesting. On one hand bringing back Ace and Dibbley it is often criticized as a fan suck endeavor, and I’ll admit it came across a bit like that to me too. (Why oh why, would a mutant that gobbles your emotion cause your appearance to change? I have theories, but that’s another post…)

On the other hand, it says a lot about Rimmer’s character that when all his negativity, is removed what is left? Ace.

I read somewhere not long ago that anxiety disorder — basically an ovverreactive fight-or-flight instinct — tends to happen more to people of above-average intelligence. And if Arnold Rimmer doesn’t have a hyperreactive flight instinct, then who does =P ? Just food for thought there; nothing substantive.

And that * is about the number of that Space Corps Directive in “Quarantine”—the script I consulted (online) lists it as #699, but I get the feeling it’s 599, which would put it neatly at the end of the pattern set by the others in that episode. If anyone can set me right on that, I’d be grateful.
