Coogan to make ten 12-minute online episodes for Foster’s lager??

The Foster’s involvement doesn’t conjure good images of how this could turn out but 2 hours of new Alan?? (minus the advertising…) Surely this is worth celebrating!

Hopefully…

a) Armando Ianucci and/or Peter Baynham will be involved.

b) the movie will still happen at some stage.

c) Alan won’t be drinking Foster’s at any point in the episodes…

d) Felicity Montague will be back as Lynn.

e) we won’t want to stab Coogan’s eyes out for taking the money and delivering a piece of bloody rubbish

I have a bad feeling about this. I really hope it’s a good quality and not just a half arsed thing to make some cash.

His last attempt at reviving Alan Partridge ended in disaster.

Being massively unfair there. Dunno what happened in Liverpool, but the O2 Arena gig I went to on the same tour was hardly a disaster. (Although the O2 isn’t suitable for comedy.)

Anyway, interested to see how this turns out. He should do a load of Sprunt gags about Fosters.

I went to the Birmingham show I think. It was a great tour, really enjoyed the show. While it’s not as peak at The Man who things he is it show, I really enjoyed a lot of the partridge stuff and more.

So i’m reading Foster is after the Fast Show as well. Does this mean there is potential for mini Red Dwarf episodes from the website as well. Or would Leopard lager object.

I saw Steve’s show in Blackburn and while plenty of it was dodgy (he had to have cue cards in front of him for a lot of it, and the material for the non-Partridge characters was either just rehashed or weak) we were still crying laughing during the Alan segment. The character still has tons of mileage as far as I can see.

There’s definitely two different Alans though, the one with Armando’s voice and the one without. Even though Steve is always great as the character I definitely prefer the Coogan/Ianucci/Baynham-written Partridge. That’s the real deal. I remember ages ago Armando said he was storylining the Partridge film, which should be enough to get anyone excited! Of course, it doesn’t look like they’re making it any time soon but we can live in hope…

As for the upcoming Coogan/Brydon series, ‘The Trip’, I thought this was gonna be a straight doc series - the brother of someone I work with was involved with it (he’s a chef at one of the pubs they used) and it was played in that way. It turns out it’s more like a Curb-style improvisation setup directed by Michael Winterbottom. Can’t wait to see the outcome!

I saw the tour in Hammersmith and thought the first half was truly awful, but the second half (with y’know, Alan and “Everyone’s a Bit of a Cunt Sometimes”) was fine. It wasn’t IAP standard, but very little is.

I’m kind of baffled as to why anyone would want Partridge to endorse their product, though. It’s like the Daily Mail running a series of commercials with him praising the paper. It misses the point somewhat.

Cheers, Dan!

And I’m hoping eventually, we’ll get a DVD release of Paul and Pauline’s video diaries (outside of the Coogan Boxset). And Brian Walden interviewing Alan B’Stard, while we’re at it. :D

First ep launches 5th Nov!! They don’t seem to have done any age makeup on Steve, thank god (sometimes on IAP series 2 Alan looked about 60!).

With any luck the scenes will be funny…

Loved it! This is instantly the Alan I like. The play between Alan and Tim Key is perfect and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

It’s frightening how Steve can just become Alan like that! This setup makes me more aware of it for some reason.

Didn’t feel it was amazing, but liked the first half. Tailed off a bit towards the end, though.

Thought the sudden scene ends were a bit jarring.

> Thought the sudden scene ends were a bit jarring.

Yeah, that would be my only issue with it. It’s a shame they didn’t do at least the odd exterior aside they could cut too at these points, if only for a few seconds. Still, it was funny and I’m gonna rewatch it right now!

Btw when he says ‘It doesn’t make sense but it’s still funny, it’s surreally funny…which is why we booked you.’ he reminds me so much of Richard Madeley it’s untrue. Maybe Steve’s been listening to Richard’s radio show for tips!

“By the way, the voice actress wasn’t given the right context for that line, and by the time we found out, she was in the taxi already. Total waste of 30 quid, she sounds like she’s being touched on a bus.”

Danodin's picture

Danodin / Sat, 2010-11-13 20:22 / #

The ‘touched on a bus’ line is another classic to add to Partridge canon!

2nd episode wasn’t as good, pretty flat through most of it (reminding me too much of listening to an actual boring radio show) but you can’t stop watching it. Steve could probably say and do anything as Alan and it would be worth sticking with.

“By the way, the voice actress wasn’t given the right context for that line, and by the time we found out, she was in the taxi already. Total waste of 30 quid, she sounds like she’s being touched on a bus.”

Speaking of voice actor context, there’s a bit of a contextual flub from Chris Barrie in Simon the Sorcerer. There’s a bit where you GIVE Gold Coins TO Wizards, and Simon says “There you are. 100 gold pieces in unmarked coins.”

Those two sentences were recorded as separate lines, and unfortunately Chris delivered the line as “There you are,” as if he’d just found someone he was looking for. It always rubs me the wrong way when I hear it.

Speaking of voice actor context, Matt Smith and Karen Gillen in Doctor Who’s Adventure Games sound like they have never heard human speech before.

I hope there’s more of Amy lusting after the Doctor in series 6. Just lusting, of course, none of the Rose or Martha stuff, and, of course, not really considering cheating on her new husband……

The idea that she just wants sex from him is so brilliant. Suddenly you realise it’s the way Doctor Who should allllways have been, right back to the Zoe and Victoria days! *sigh* Zoe…the places that arse could have taken me…void space, for instance…

As much as I’m delighted that there is an extra episode for Comic Relief, there is a part of me that is annoyed that having spent time making menus for a DVD, there is now an extra episode that I have to put in which cocks up the template. How wonderfully anally retentive.

Is that Peter Baynham interviewing him? If so, that’s the kind of thing that makes me feel warm inside….:D

Steve, again, scarily good as Alan. There’s a reason why you never feel like ‘oh god, he’s falling back on Alan…again *sigh*’ He’s so rounded, so real, even moreso now than ever before. Steve doesn’t need an Oscar (see The Trip :P) cause his work as Alan is beyond the worth of a mere golden statuette!
