I very much doubt it’s a playable game - it’s probably rotoscoped animation based mostly on footage of the original game, like this video. Along with these screenshots, they make for very different, but very impressive, interpretations of what a HD Sonic game should look like.
For some reason, I cannot see that video, it’s locked at the beginning on a black screen.
I really want to see this!
Yeah same problem for me too. It doesn’t seem to want to play… :-(
Wow, watching that brought back how much the chorus of ‘Don’t Upset The Rhythm’ by the Noisettes reminds me of the Sonic boss music…

OMG I think my brain just asploded…
Along similar lines, Gorillaz’ “O Green World” reminds me of a piece of music from Theme Hospital.
Anyway, that video is pretty swish. It’s just a pity I really don’t like Sonic.
Looks like it was made in the unity game engine, free download it’s actually quite a good engine, simple to pickup but scope is excellent. The reason is say unity is because of the indie splash screen
A glimpse into the future of usernames incorporating year of birth, there.
So, Sonic 4 episode 1 is out today. I imagine Ian and I will be playing the shit out of it tonight, but anyone have any early reports?
ARGH. I need to save up for a hard drive, dont’ tell me it’s out! I’ll have to go get it now…
EDIT: Ah it’s not available for the PSN until the 13th. I may be ok .

SHIT.
Only out for iOS today, I think. And as much as I love my iPhone, I’m not fucking playing Sonic 4 on it.
Wonder whether to go for the PSN or Wii version. Might wait for the reviews if I can contain myself.
Might try to persuade my boss to buy it for his iPad. And then let me play it.
I’m not massively convinced the controls will be good enough on the iOS versions. And I’m certain that they won’t be as good as a proper control pad. I can - just - wait…
Anything is better than playing anything on the iPhone. Unless, of course, you feel like you want to play it during lunch in the staff room at work, pissing off everyone else around you…
I love my Megadrive emulator on my Android phone, but the fact I have to use soft buttons on the screen is a big barrier. Next phone will need a physical keyboard, I think.
I’m perfectly happy with the control system on the iOS port of Sonic 2 - it takes a little getting used to, but it generally works fine. My beef with that port is the fact that it’s not the full game - there’s no option to turn off Tails (meaning there’s no chance of getting all the emeralds), and no sound test mode for CHEATING purposes.
However, since the control system is fine, I’ll happily buy Sonic 4 once I can be arsed to spend six quid on it. It does have iOS exclusive levels, too…
And no sound test mode for CHEATING purposes.
Ah, 19, 65, 09, 17. Those numbers will stay with me til I die. I might put them on my gravestone.
I must admit, reports of Sonic 4 on iOS have been positive - or, at least, the ones I’ve read have been.
I suppose ultimately I just want to sit on the floor, stare at the telly, and play like the old Sonic games…
I remember when we found our Sega Mega Drive in October although it was meant to be a Christmas present, we couldnt’ not play on it. We only had Sonic 2, but bugger me, was that all we needed!
Good times.
Good times…

This is really impressive I haven’t a clue how it was done.
