The future of Red Dwarf merch

My new job (Yes, I know! Go me!) is working for a high-end collectibles and memorabilia company here in the US called Quantum Mechanix. I went into work today for a couple of hours to chat with my new boss, and being huge geeks the subject of Red Dwarf came up. Naturally it got me thinking about the potential for brand-new Red Dwarf merch.

I’m not talking about talking keyrings or reprints of old tee-shirts. I’m talking brand-spanking new merch. Figurines, models, maquettes, that sort of thing. Something a little more high-end. One of the things QMx makes is a film-quality model of the refit Enterprise circa The Motion Picture - wouldn’t it be great (if incredibly unlikely) to see something like that become available?

I don’t think QMx are likely to go after the license - they’re an American company, and I reckon the market for, say, a large Red Dwarf model or a range of statuettes is probably very, very small - but assuming somebody UK-bound picks up the license, what sort of thing would you guys like to see?

Seb thats an AMAZING List.

Ben - an original Red Dwarf model with light bulb In It’s ass would be - I think we all agree - the most wanted item In Dwarf history.

All I want is a Skutter. Is that too much to ask?

I’ve got the Skutter that came with the series VIII DVD, but I’ve never actually opened it. I’d like a skutter I can pway with, as well.

I would pay really good money for a GOOD Red Dwarf physical model, and a life sized remote controlled Skutter.

Karnie / Mon, 2012-01-30 17:55 / #

A cheaper version of the Starbug playset and an RC Skutter please.

A calender designed by Danny and P2P would be made of WIN!

bountyhunter / Tue, 2012-01-31 00:35 / #

Seeing as I’m getting married next year some Starbug cufflinks would go down a treat.

Put my name down for a skutter too and an reproduction of Rimmer’s uniform badge.
