I’m just wincing at the memory of it - I remember being SIMILARLY APPALLED at the time.

Ha! Good use of the classic Eric Morecambe joke there, Cappsy! I did the same thing in the middle of St Peter’s Square in Rome, and was disproportionately pleased with myself.

The light-bulb gag is good, but so many people who say they are fans and say that it’s their favourite scene it normally means they are not a real fan as the people who tell me this tend not to remember any other scene.

Anyway, going on…it’s a good commentary.

My girlfriend is a massive Dwarf fan, and it’s her favourite scene. So there.

Although Legion does contain another utterly perfect joke about lights… Legion’s delivery of “Not really… I need it to turn the lights on and off!” is sublime.

I just noticed that X-Files line repeat yesterday - I felt a bit freaky when I heard you lot mention it today. I think it may even be a little homage to Dwarf.

Well, in fairness, Penny said it NORMALLY means that, not it ALWAYS means that. And right or wrong, that scene does seem to be the default go-to scene when someone needs a clip of the show for some reason. It’s definitely “Greatest Hits” material at this point.

Still makes me laugh, though…in context.

Probably my favourite Dwarf line ever, that. And one of the few to send me into uncontrollable hysterics.

I don’t understand why that’s a problem, though. There’s a real snobbery about going with the popular consensus on stuff like that, and I think it’s unfair - while the wider masses are generally pretty stupid, they do sometimes get it right. To draw another example from Dwarf context - Back to Reality. It’s almost fashionable to claim that episode isn’t as good as people make out - when in fact, by any criterion you care to judge it by, it’s an absolutely cracking piece of telly.

I remember saying that it was probably a bit over-rated a couple of years ago. But yes, I was wrong - it’s one of the best episodes of Dwarf ever made, if not the best.

What is perhaps fair to say about it is that it’s not the funniest episode of Dwarf ever made - and so perhaps it’s unrepresentative of the series. But that’s a different thing entirely.

I can completely understand saying either :

- “I don’t find it as funny as a lot of others”
- “It’s not a personal favourite”

But it just strikes me that a lot of the negative vibes it gets are largely down to its status as “unquestioned best episode”. See also : Gunmen. Although with that one, I can understand the flaws that would make people enjoy it less, even though personal preference means that I love it.

Legion is still a haunting reminder of Gannon for me.

Ditto. Admittedly, it’s based on a really daft setup (It looks like a light-switch so Rimmer mistaking it for a piece of art is a little hard to swallow) but the delivery by Nigel Williams is wonderful.

I think Legion is the funniest episode, but Back to Reality is still tops. I’ve always found Gunmen slightly over-rated, mind.

I’m not arguing that at all. It’s just that your “so there” came off as more than a little abrasive, and it was worth pointing out that she wasn’t speaking in absolutes anyway.

I’m still not a fan of this episode, no matter how many times I’ve watched it and tried to think otherwise.

Yeah perhaps there are a few of the supposed ‘all-time classic Dwarf lines’ in it, but stuff like the flying food and hitting each other gags just don’t make me laugh here for some reason. It’s like what they say in the commentary, Rimmer goes all hard-light (one of the better parts of the episode) and so they use it as an excuse to hit him a lot!

Legion should have been loads better as a character. The less said about the shit costume the better, and I don’t like his voice. Because it’s all a voiceover he sounds like the narrator of an old Ch4 Schools education programme (don’t know where that comparison comes from but I think of it every time, bizarrely). It just doesn’t work, especially when you consider he’s supposed to be made up of the four Dwarfers.

The only good bit is where he gets weak because Cat and the others are going to sleep. That’s actually quite creepy for some reason.

Every other episode of VI is better than Legion, apart from Rimmerworld maybe, and even that has an all-time bestest line of Dwarf like ever line in it (‘or we could use the teleporter’ a million times funnier than the bulb line).

Well, to be honest, I found the use of the phrase “real fan” abrasive. So I guess we’re even.

And that’s fine. I don’t mean to get into a shouting match and it’s not my argument to have anyway. I just saw that as a little too strong a response to what was given.

You may have viewed it differently. In fact, clearly you have. And that’s alright. But I personally felt it was slightly out of line and worth keeping in check.

Aaaanyway I’ve said my peace and you’ve said yours, so there’s really nowhere else for this particular avenue of discussion to go. At least, nowhere pleasant. So shake hands, and play fair.
